Wisconsin Dells Waterparks: Indoor and Outdoor, From a Family That's Done Them

The Dells calls itself the Waterpark Capital of the World, and after a lot of trips with my family, I'd say it earns it. We've been to Kalahari, Great Wolf Lodge, Wilderness and Land of Natura, and every one of them makes a good day. The trick is picking the right one for the season and for your kids.
Prices and hours change often, so check the official site before you go.
Indoor or outdoor?
This is the first decision, and the season mostly makes it for you.
- Indoor parks are open all year. They're the answer for winter trips, rainy days and anyone who doesn't want to think about the weather.
- Outdoor parks run roughly Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. On a hot July day, nothing beats them.
- Some resorts have both. Kalahari, Wilderness and Mt. Olympus all have indoor parks plus outdoor areas that open in summer.
The indoor parks

Kalahari
Our top pick for an indoor day, and it just got bigger. The $85 million, 75,000-square-foot Aquadome opened in October 2026 under a retractable glass roof. It adds Zambezi Rapids (an enclosed boomerang raft ride), a water coaster, a four-lane racer, a 10,000-square-foot zero-depth pool, the Adventure Bay kids' area for ages 2 to 12, and The Grotto, a 21+ swim-up bar. There's also Tom Foolery's Adventure Park next door for go-karts, laser tag and a ropes course when everyone's had enough water.

Wilderness Resort
Wilderness bills itself as America's largest waterpark resort, with four indoor parks and four outdoor parks spread across the property. The Wild WaterDome reopened in October 2026 with a new see-through roof, the Volcano Vortex raft slide and a new kids' area, Coral Cove. It's more spread out than Kalahari, so plan on walking between parks. At night, the resort is also home to Aquavia Lumina, a one-mile light walk through a canyon. Read our Aquavia Lumina review.
Great Wolf Lodge
Smaller and easy with younger kids: three indoor pools, six slides and the Crooked Creek lazy river, kept at 84 degrees. Everything is close together, which makes it simpler to keep track of a few little ones. MagiQuest, the wand game that runs through four floors of the lodge, costs extra. Great Wolf sells full-day and half-day passes (from 4 pm) to non-guests.
Chula Vista Resort
The Lost Rios indoor waterpark is for resort guests only. There are no day passes, so it only makes sense if you're staying there.
The outdoor parks

Land of Natura
Our favorite summer day in the Dells. Instead of chlorine pools, it's built around a naturally filtered, chlorine-free lake with a huge floating inflatable waterpark, sandy beaches, kayaks and a treetop walkway. It feels completely different from the big slide parks. The 2026 season is over, and it reopens in May 2027.

Noah's Ark
The giant outdoor park on the Parkway, billed as America's largest waterpark, with more than 50 attractions on over 70 acres. It's open Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. This is the one for big-thrill slides like the Scorpion's Tail (a near-vertical loop), Black Anaconda and Time Warp, plus lazy rivers and wave pools. Plan on a full day and a lot of walking.
Mt. Olympus
Outdoor water and theme parks (mid-May through mid-September) plus an indoor waterpark and indoor theme park open year-round. The outdoor park has The Rise of Icarus, at 145 feet billed as the tallest waterslide in the U.S. A good pick if your group wants rides as well as slides.
Day passes if you're not staying at a resort
You don't have to book a waterpark resort to visit one. Kalahari and Great Wolf sell a limited number of day passes online (check Wilderness's site for theirs), and plenty of families stay in a vacation home and do one waterpark day.
- Buy online ahead of time. Day passes are limited and sell out on weekends, holidays and rainy summer days.
- Spring and fall weekdays are calmer. Saturdays in summer and over school breaks are the busiest.
- Check what's included. Some parks charge extra for cabanas, lockers, arcade cards and add-ons like MagiQuest. Great Wolf doesn't allow outside food.
Tips from our trips
- Go at opening. The first hour has the shortest lines for the big slides. Thank me later.
- Bring water shoes for hot pavement at the outdoor parks and wet tile at the indoor ones.
- Grab a home base early. Chairs and tables near the kids' areas go fast.
- Pack snacks for the car. Park food is fine but pricey, and kids are always starving on the drive back.
- Mix in a dry day. Two waterpark days in a row wears everyone out. Pair one with a boat tour or a hike.
Where to stay for a waterpark trip
Both of my homes are a short drive from Kalahari, Wilderness, Great Wolf and Noah's Ark. A lot of families book a home for the space (bedrooms, a full kitchen and a game room for the evenings) and buy day passes for the park they want. See where to stay in Wisconsin Dells for how that compares to a waterpark resort.
FAQ
What is the best waterpark in Wisconsin Dells?
For an indoor day, Kalahari, especially with the new Aquadome. For a summer day, Land of Natura if you want something calmer and more natural, or Noah's Ark if you want the biggest slides.
Are Wisconsin Dells waterparks open in winter?
The indoor parks are. Kalahari, Wilderness, Great Wolf and Mt. Olympus's indoor parks are open all year. Outdoor parks close after Labor Day. See the Dells in winter.
Can you go to a waterpark resort without staying there?
At Kalahari and Great Wolf, yes, with a day pass. Buy it online ahead of time because they're limited. Check Wilderness's site for its current day pass options. Chula Vista's Lost Rios is guests only.
Which Dells waterpark is best for toddlers?
Great Wolf Lodge is the easiest with little ones because it's compact. Kalahari's kids' areas are also great, and Land of Natura's beaches work well for younger kids who aren't ready for the floating park.
